Levosil has been compliant with the REACH regulation since it entered into force in 2007<\/strong>, managing registration, traceability and documentation of its desiccants according to European requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the REACH regulation<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

REACH (EC 1907\/2006)<\/strong> governs the use of chemical substances in the European Union.
It has been in force since 2007 and requires registration with ECHA of substances produced or imported in quantities above 1 tonne per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Desiccants under REACH<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Common desiccants used in packaging \u2014 including silica gel, calcium chloride and molecular sieves<\/strong> \u2014 fall within the REACH framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In practice:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • registration is required above\u00a01 ton\/year<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • safety data and traceability must be available throughout the supply chain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    One important exception:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • natural clay not chemically modified<\/strong>\u00a0is exempt (Annex V \u2013 Entry 7)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
      \n\n\n\n

      Risks of non-compliance<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

      Non-compliance with REACH has consequences across the entire supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      For producers and importers:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • customs blocking of goods<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • market withdrawal<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • financial penalties (defined at national level)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • legal liability and reputational damage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        • possession of non-compliant products in the EU market<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • traceability issues<\/li>\n\n\n\n

          • include updated\u00a0Safety Data Sheets (SDS)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • be fully traceable in terms of origin and quantity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
